Bainbridge College is pleased to announce that the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia will officially consider the college’s request to move to “state college” status and, thus, begin offering bachelor’s degree programs at their regularly-scheduled January meeting. At that time, we have also been invited to bring a request for a corresponding name change should we wish to recommend such a change. Other University System colleges that have become part of the “state college” network have changed their name (e.g., Darton College became Darton State College & Atlanta Metropolitan College became Atlanta Metropolitan State College). As a result, the college’s administration is currently considering three options, and we would very much appreciate your feedback before finalizing any decision regarding our name. One option has been to retain the current name – Bainbridge College. A second option has been to change our name to Bainbridge State College. A third option has been to change our name to something that is more descriptive of the region of the state we serve.
This is your chance to tell us what name you think would be best for the institution. Using this blog, we first ask that you let us know whether you are a current BC student, a current BC employee, or a member of the communities we serve. You are then encouraged to indicate which of the three options above you feel should be chosen. If you pick the third option, please be specific in suggesting the new name that you feel should be selected. No matter which option you select, I hope you will also provide a brief rationale of why you feel the option you have selected is the one that should be chosen. You are, of course, welcome to check back often to see what others have suggested either before or after offering your suggestion. A final decision regarding this issue must be made by the end of November. Therefore, this blog will remain active through Friday, November 16th in order to collect your feedback. Please know that the college retains the right to remove any posts that are deemed to be inappropriate.
Thank you in advance for your input, and we hope that you are as excited as we are about the future of this institution.
